Many owners shy away from launching a blog with their business because they are not really sure what they will say or how they will find content. Even though adding a blog to your company website is one of the BEST ways to improve your search engine rankings, it’s still a bit daunting to figure out what will be on the blog itself, let alone how to keep it going and managed.

Here’s a few tips for content ideas:

  • If you find yourself answering the same questions over and over, why not blog the answers instead?
  • Are there relevant/current news items that you could comment on?
  • Can you speak to a specialty without giving away the “special sauce” of what you do?
  • Are there seasonal considerations (summer, winter, holidays, in-school, etc.)

If you think through your primary offerings as a business, can you write to support those? For instance,  a few areas of focus for are online marketing, web development and lead generation. If I just take those three concepts, I can then chart out an editorial calendar for months at a time with topics surrounding those three.

One other great way of getting both content AND traffic is to find someone influential in your industry to guest post on your blog. Not only do you not have to write anything, but they will share their posting with their extended network as well!

Any other ideas?
