I was watching a keynote speech by Chris Brogan the other day and right at the end of his talk he mentioned that people could see a list of case studies for social media by simply going to delicious.com/chrisbrogan/casestudy.

If you don’t know what delicious.com is, it’s a way for you to bookmark your favorite URL’s as you run across them, tagging them, organizing them. It’s an alternative to having “favorites” or “bookmarks” in your browser. This way, no matter what computer you’re on, you can log in to delicious.com and access all your favorite links. There’s a firefox plugin that makes it very easy to add/revisit bookmarks.

Enter Google Reader. I have enjoyed this tool for listening to all the great things happening out in the blogosphere, flickr, twitter – any RSS feed enabled site you can load in here and not have to jump around to hundreds of spots a day. Google recently added more social tools to the reader allowing you to “like” or “share” something you’ve read. You then have a direct URL to all your shared items.

google reader share settingsI will admit I’m a Google junkie. I use it every day for everything from email, calendar, docs, contacts, chat, tasks, and more. Google Reader to me is a no-brainer.

HOWEVER, currently where Reader breaks down for me is in accessibility. Delicious.com has this one beat. If I’m trying to reference a tag of shared items on Google Reader, I have to share a link something like this:

google reader share URL

That same tag on Delicious.com is delicious.com/mattmetten/web

I was chatting with my buddy Frank today and he was saying how he used to use delicious.com but now just uses Google Reader as he didn’t want to manage two different services. While I agree, there are some interesting developments with using Google Reader to post to delicious.com.

For me, I would rather be able to quickly access the info and/or reference it to someone else which swayed my vote to delicious.com. I will start using the integration so in case Reader ever catches up with cleaner URL’s, I will have info in both places.

Your thoughts? Am I missing something on the URL’s for Google Reader?

Have you given though to using ‘Google Bookmarks’? A, separate product that integrates well with Chrome and might be the Google’loving bookmark product your searching for. Good luck
