Everyone Has A Budget

Or, everyone has a price. There is a price-point threshold you have in your mind for your next project.

One of the most common questions a web/creative/design person gets is, “How much would it take to do ____”. The better question is, “How much are you willing to spend to make ____ happen?”  

If you really have no idea, then say that and see what a good range would be for that type of project BEFORE any formal estimate is created. Do some homework, check around with a few vendors or even check forums online. Everyone has a budget as I have yet to meet someone with unlimited resources for the project, so set a range and then take what you get for that price.

When it comes to web design, there are many who think that because it’s online it should be so much cheaper, for some reason. They want to open an online store and want to spend less than they spend on lattes for the month.

You will absolutely get what you pay for. Sometimes you’ll get less, but that’s another post on finding trusted solutions. If you can be honest with your expectations, honest with your price, and realistic with your time, you will have a very successful project. If your goal is to find the cheapest price, you will find it. That compromise, in the long run, can cause more pain than you can imagine.

Before you embark on your next web/design/digital marketing/e-commerce project, take a few minutes and figure out:

  • What are the exact functions you’re looking for?
  • Are there current sites that do a good job that you can reference?
  • What is your deadline schedule?
  • And finally, what is the range of your budget?

Believe me, if you come to the table with those specifics, you will have a much more successful project and more than likely build a great relationship with your provider as they will LOVE to work with you.
